Day 9 // Casablanca (الدّار البيضاء)

We're back on the Atlantic coast! Casablanca, which means "white house" in Spanish, is Morocco's largest city, and it houses North Africa's largest port. It's the economic capital of Morocco, and is absolutely beautiful to boot. Fun fact: In Arabic, Casablanca is actually "ad-daar al-beeda,"which is the Arabic term for white house.

Transportation (Mount ToubkalCasablanca)
You'll need to get to the Gare de Marrakech in order to get to Casablanca. According to the Riad Ouassagou website, the owner can arrange transportation between Marrakech and Imlil. While I don't know the prices, I can't imagine that it would be too expensive.

Have the driver take you to the Gare de Marrakech, where you'll catch your train to Casablanca. Between Marrakech and Casablanca, the ONCF train costs about 90 dh and the ride lasts about three hours and 15 minutes.

We'll be staying at Hôtel Central! It's a little more expensive at $28/night/person, but Casablanca is a bit more expensive and this hotel is beautiful, centrally located, and the closest thing to a Westernized hotel that we've found in our price range. While it's fun to experience the riads, you deserve a little luxury after roughing it on Mount Toubkal!

As this hotel is a bit more luxurious, it offers WiFi, has a computer room, overlooks the Port of Casablanca, includes breakfast, and is located in the heart of the medina. There's also a terrace, a sun deck, and a restaurant on the property (with the option of room service!), and there's laundry and dry cleaning! Take advantage of this!

Look at that view!

Honestly, by the time you get to Marrakech from Imlil, arrive in Casablanca, and fill out paperwork at the hotel, it'll be nighttime. Take a stroll through the beautiful medina, and get a good night's sleep!
