Birchbox Unveiling (August 2014)

August 2014

August was all about lightening up one's beauty routine to accommodate for the hot, sticky weather. For the second month in a row, subscribers were allowed to choose one of five samples, which I thought was really great!

Here are the products I received.

theBalm® cosmetics Stainiac in Beauty Queen: full size costs $17; sample value is $2.27

Even though I sampled this in the October box, I chose this as my choose-your-own sample. I love and use my sample, but it's something I'd like to take with me to Europe, and by then it'll be a year old...time for the garbage. This replacement is great, and it's perfect for traveling, as it's a multi-purpose lip and cheek tint!

Noir Long-Wear Eyeliner: full size costs $15; sample value is $15 (received the full-sized product!)

This is the second time I've received a black eyeliner in a Birchbox in the past few months, but I'm not complaining. Again, I'll need to throw out one of them by the time I head to France, so this will act as a replacement.

amika Perk Up Dry Shampoo: full size costs $21; sample value is $2.97

How adorable is the packaging?! This is going straight in the "France" sample pile. After hours of travel, my hair (and especially my bangs) feel really greasy and icky. This dry shampoo will be the perfect pick-me-up, and it's small enough to be TSA approved!

Vasanti Detox Nutrient-Rich Purifying Facial Cleanser: full size costs $24; sample value is $3.20

I love the sample I received of the Vasanti exfoliant, so I'm really excited about trying out this face wash! I'm going to Chicago on Thursday, and I think I'll pack this instead of my usual (and bigger) cleanser.

Harvey Prince Ageless Body Cream: full size costs $26; sample value is $1.11

This, too, goes in the France pile! I need a sample-sized body lotion, and this smells amazing from what I can tell. I was going to test it out, but there's a little foil seal. This makes me so happy! I can pack it without fear of it spilling.

Total box value: $24.55

I'm thrilled with this month's box, and even though I won't try out most of the products for another month or so, they're all things I need or could use. My favorite item is probably the Harvey Prince lotion--grapefruit is one of my favorite scents, and this smells divine!

Want one, too? Subscribe to Birchbox today for just $10/month!

  1. This is such an awesome box! I got a Harvey Prince lotion in my July Birchbox and it was lovely. Also, that Amika dry shampoo is great. All of their products smell so fabulous. Looks like you got exactly what you needed for heading overseas!

  4. Ha I didn't know Birchbox had a "choose your own sample" option these days, I unsubscribed awhile ago because I thought my Ipsy was way more bang for my buck but that's definitely an interesting concept!

  18. Oh I am so glad! The last thing I'd want is to use it post-flight and have a white powdery scalp!

  20. You know I've been seeing a lot these monthly boxes and always wondered which has the best products and which was worth the monthly fee. It looks like you got a lot of goodies this month. Thank your for sharing.

  21. Yeah, I didn't get any white at all! And I usually end up somehow getting some on certain sprays!
